Cloud Service Safeguards Health Information

Monty Blight

National IT infrastructure and cloud solutions provider Peak 10 Inc. has enhanced its HIPAA-ready Cloud  to assist businesses in meeting the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

The Peak 10 HIPAA-ready Cloud provides the technology infrastructure to manage HITECH- and HIPAA-compliant applications and data storage in a secure cloud environment, ensuring maximum data protection that safeguards the transmission of confidential electronic personal health information (ePHI) against cyber assaults and threats.

The solution employs the latest information security best practices, and is now coupled with a third-party audit, to ensure maximum uptime, availability and enhanced security for critical health information. It includes 24/7 technical support from Peak 10 staff that are trained comprehensively in security protocols as well as facilities and resource management.

“While many of the requirements for HIPAA compliance, such as application design, will remain the responsibility of our healthcare customers, Peak 10 implements a number of the safeguards required by HIPAA and HITECH to ensure protection of personal health information in the cloud,” said Monty Blight, Peak 10’s vice president of product management. “Our tailored approach reduces the technical complexities for customers who want the flexibility of cloud infrastructure to maintain their records, but need additional support from a round-the-clock team that can help keep them compliant.”

Customers using the Peak 10 HIPAA-ready Cloud are also able to now leverage the company’s enterprise-class facilities, disaster recovery services and other cloud infrastructure to ensure the security and availability of their applications and data. Customers in the Peak 10 cloud also have access to the annual audit report of healthcare information privacy controls (AT 101) for data center operations.

“Peak 10 provides the most up-to-date industry-recognized security standards, featuring multiple layers of data protection, antivirus management and firewall and multiple Web scanning procedures within our cloud platform,” added Blight.

HIPAA-ready cloud is among a number of enhancements being made to Peak 10’s secure cloud services. The company is also launching a PCI-ready Cloud service for businesses handling payment card data that must meet the compliance requirements of the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Earlier this year, Peak 10 also announced it has enhanced its Recovery Cloud service, overhauling its scope, processes and technology to help customers restore services in the event of a site failure ? quickly, securely and regardless of where their production environment is housed.

Peak 10 provides tailored, reliable cloud solutions and other information technology infrastructure services, primarily for mid-market businesses. Services include cost-effective, enterprise-class data center space and a wide range of network and managed services such as application management and managed security.

Peak 10 facilities are currently strategically located in 10 U.S. cities, supporting customers around the world. Committed to meeting changing customer needs, Peak 10 continues to invest in current and new facilities, technologies and services. Peak 10 is SSAE 16 audited, and helps companies meet the requirements of various regulatory compliance acts such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), HIPAA/HITECH, PCI DSS and Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLBA).
