Other board positions include: Senior Vice Chairman Günther Meggeneder, CIA, head of internal audit at ista International in Essen, Germany, has been elected as senior vice chairman of the board. As senior vice president Meggeneder will, in the absence or disability of the chairman, perform the duties of chairman. He will be responsible for working with the four vice chairmen to facilitate communication and coordination among IIA committees to drive the organization's strategic objectives. Meggeneder will be eligible for election as IIA chairman in June 2010. Vice Chairman – Professional Development Anne M. Mercer, CIA, CFSA, senior vice president of internal audit at Universal American Corp. in Houston, has been elected as vice chairman of the board – professional development. As vice chairman of professional development, Mercer will supervise and coordinate the activities of the professional development committees, which ensure timely and relevant professional development opportunities are available to the internal audit profession. Vice Chairman – Professional Practices Dennis K. Beran, CIA, CCSA, senior vice president and director of audit at JCPenney Inc. in Dallas, has been elected as vice chairman of the board – professional practices. As vice chairman of professional practices, Beran will supervise and coordinate the activities of the professional practices committee to develop guidance and issue position papers on topics affecting, directly or indirectly, the profession of internal auditing. Vice Chairman – Professional Services Philip D. Tarling, MIIA, partner at Bentley Jennison Risk Management in Fareham, England, has been elected vice chairman of the board – professional services. As vice chairman for professional services, Tarling will supervise and coordinate the activities of the professional services committee to ensure The IIA provides the most relevant and comprehensive benefits possible to its membership. Vice Chairman – Research Paul J. Sobel, CIA, vice president of internal audit at Mirant Corporation in Atlanta, has been elected vice chairman of the board – research. As vice chairman of research, Sobel will also serve as President of The IIA Research Foundation and will provide strategic direction for research on the internal audit profession. Treasurer Oswaldo Basile, CIA, CCSA, executive director at Trusty Consultories in Sao Paulo, has been elected treasurer of The IIA’s Board of Directors. As treasurer, Basile will oversee the establishment and maintenance of adequate controls for safeguarding the funds of The Institute. Secretary Michael J. A. Parkinson, CIA, director at KPMG in Canberra, Australia, has been elected secretary of The IIA’s Board of Directors. As secretary, Parkinson will be responsible for notifying the board of directors of its meetings, and members of The Institute of general membership meetings. Additionally, he will be responsible for keeping records of all meetings and ensuring that board members and IIA members have ready access to all records.
