JPMorgan Chase and Co. (NYSE: JPM) has announced that Tim Ryan would re-join the firm as Global Head of Regulatory Strategy and Policy. Ryan served as CEO of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) since 2009. He will report to Matt Zames, co-Chief Operating Officer for JPMorgan Chase. “We are extremely pleased that Tim will be returning to JPMorgan Chase,” said Mr. Zames. “More than at any time in our history, regulatory strategy and policies around the world are affecting our business and how we serve clients. Tim has both a deep knowledge of these policies and the government representatives formulating them, and also knows our businesses and executives extremely well from his 16 years at the firm. Beyond that, he has outstanding leadership qualities and integrity. We’re fortunate to have him back on our senior team.”
“I’m looking forward to coming back to J.P. Morgan,” said Mr. Ryan. “I’ve had a great experience at SIFMA and am fortunate to have worked with as many terrific people as I did. As Dodd Frank, Basel, EU, FSB and housing policies continue to evolve, I believe my experience can help the businesses across JPMorgan Chase continue to adapt and thrive.” Before joining SIFMA in 2008, Ryan was Vice Chairman of Investment Banking for Financial Institutions and Governments at J.P. Morgan. Prior to joining JPMorgan in 1993, Mr. Ryan was the director of the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As OTS director, he was the banking and securities regulator for the nation's approximately 2,000 thrifts. He was also a principal manager of the savings and loan cleanup, which involved closing approximately 700 insolvent institutions, improving capital bases and selling over $300 billion of assets. From 1983 to 1990, Ryan was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm Reed, Smith, Shaw & McClay, where he headed the Pension Investment Group and was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. From 1981 to 1983, he was Solicitor of Labor at the U.S. Department of Labor.
